I will try the push start in the morning, thanks you guys for being my lifeline, where else could I turn at 11.30 at night. To complicate matters there is no WIFI in the room at the less than nice hotel we have ended up in, I am sitting in the lobby.
But at least we have a bed for the night, I was going to pitch the tent in the carpark next to the car but that might have caused its own problems.

I suppose you have done all the obvious things like checking the fuses?

The other thing is did you bring a spare key with you? It may be a problem with the chip in the key being damaged or missing. I also understand that the immobiliser sensor near the ignition switch can move out of place on some models.

Personally I think it unlikely to be the starter motor, but it could be a relay. It is a bit stupid but it is a dash out job on the Plus 4 to get at most of the relays, probably is on the Roadster too.

You will find the fuse and relay layout in a diagram here

In my 2005 Roadster the ignition cut-out button in mounted on the left side of the engine compartment attached to the bulkhead just behind the wiper motor and radiator reservoir. I believe it is reset just by pressing it.

Hi timpot7
I have not technical skills but I would like to share a phenomen I had experienced with my 2008 Roadster. It was the same situation as you describe: Insert the key and nothing happened. If your 2007 Roadster should be built in the same way as my 2008 MY try the following. Around the ignition lock is a kind of a ring made of plastic at least in the 2008 Roadster. This ring must not be fixed (with glue or similar stuff). On my car car it was movable. You can turn it in both directions or you even can pull it from the ignition lock. If you have altered the position of this ring around the ignition lock by change without intention it can happen that it will stopp to communicate with your key. If you should have the same design system as my car had, just try to turn this ring a little bit during severals trials to start the engine.

BTW on newers cars MMC has changed this design, on my 2010 Roadster this ring disappeared.

Good try and good luck!

You may have overloaded the relay by operating the starter when the car was already running. If your Roadster is the same as my 09 one, the relay should be in the alloy box on the r/h side of the bulkhead under the bonnet.

You guys are a Godsend, this morning after a restless night we got to the car to find that it was okay, that was the first good thing. Then I fiddled with the plastic ring around the key hole as per Heinz suggestion in conjunction with the spare key as per Peters suggestion and to our delight she fired into life on the first turn of the key. Music to our ears and thanks to all of you for your diligent support, between us we succeeded.
In regard to my previous (continuing issue) with the noise in the transmission tunnel, I have booked the car into Berrybrook Morgan for an inspection on the day we come off the ferry at Plymouth next Friday. I will let you know what the outcome is.
Thanks again you lot
Tim

Good luck. I have super glued the chip into my key for my Roadster as advised by the dealer
