Seeing as how we have an international membership as well as globe-trotting international playboys (and girls) on site, perhaps someone can help me...

Have picked up a booking for a wedding in Vienna in November - flying out with two chums the day before, and staying for a day and a half afterwards to make the most of the trip.

Can anyone suggest and must see/must do ideas please? We'll be based in the 6th district and will probably buy travel passes.

Ta muchly!

Paul,
the Schoenbrun palace & St Stephenes Kirk in the centre are worth a visit.

Paul, the Hundertwasserhaus is worth taking a look at.

As John has already said, any of the imperial palaces are worth a look.

Depending on whether it is your thing or not, the Lipizzan are very impressive (and I'm not a horse person; however, the skill and training makes it stand out).

Paul,
I also forgot that is you go out to the Wiener wald there are lots of pretty village plus pubs (Heurigen)which sell the local wine & even a sort of first fermentation wine called "Sturm" (storm) which is a bit like scrumpy.

Thanks for all the advice!

Have the semi-rural pub angle covered, as gig is here -

'Coffee & stickies' was so on the list of things to do; now we'll know where to go for them.

Hundertwasser House looks well wort a visit, regret that a trip to the opera may not appeal to the others, although can probably 'swing' a palace or museum on them. Will include the Schoenbrun in the itinery.

Have also been looking for a pub / club we can play a set at on Sunday night, but no joy so far.

...and the Cafe Demel whose interior has to be seen! (try their demel sachertorte to compare with the Hotel Sacher's version - there was a long legal dispute with the Hotel Sacher over who invented the torte. Demel's has no apricot jam in it).

Demel

If you are into art the Kunsthistorisches and the Belvedere have amazing collections. And take a tram ride round the Ringstrasse - a good way to see the city architecture.

Wedding has been called off! Happens to us about once a year. Now off to Cheshire then instead, but thanks again for the suggestions.
