Having just replaced the original Continental front tyres I now realise the attempt to get mileage from the last couple of legal millimeters was not best policy.
The improvement is so noticeable. Lighter, more accurate steering and a real pleasure. Toyos on the rear simply because my local tyre dealer said he couldn't get them any more. Of course they are available at mytyres.co.uk and always were.

I replaced all four of my OE Continentals on the 4/4 Sport at 17,000 miles as I believe it's the cheapest form of safety if you are a reasonably enthusiastic driver.

£160 for 4 Toyos all inc.

The inside edge on the fronts wear was my decider - camber set up helps it handle better when pressed. They are very skinny tyres so the small footprint needs to be effective.

I managed to convince our '99 4/4 owning friend to replace his tyres for the first time this year. He was pleasantly surprised at the difference it made.

I was thinking of putting some Avon CR6zz's on my 4/4 would the 167 tyre fit? I do not race they would be solely for road use and to improve handling, being used in this way what mileage is possible with these as they are a tad expesive? I know this is the how long is a piece of string question but would be grateful for views.

For a 4/4 on 5" rims for road use I would urge you to consider the Vredestein Sprint Classics, I love them, very predictable, decent wear characteristics, and they look just right on a 4/4. Narrow tyres complement the nimble handling, and they grip very well.

I can get mine to break away, but it's as a result of pretty brutal throttle openings in the lower gears, and I've got something over 165bhp to do it with. In normal driving they are perfect.

Nearly new Toyo 330 on the rear (165/80 R15 87T)...
