They do look fantastic Aeroman, but how did they sound? The same as the factory sidepipes? Sure you can't remember the company name? I'll have a hypnotist to come and visit you if needed. The easiest option is ordering the Librands, I'm not sure the extra hassle for fitting the sidepipes is worth it soundwise.

I've been playing the sound samples all week but it's hard to judge with the given sound quality.

I know I will get chastised for this comment... but!, I personally find the Librands rear exhaust to be a much fuller, robust sound.
The side pipes do sound excellent but to my ears they do not seem to cover the same range - loosing out of the full symphony that is the rear exits, somehow sounding more mechanical. Also, and perhaps because of their placement, sound less balanced (well you are sitting much closer to one exhaust outlet than the other).
You won't be disappointed with either option but a little like listening to good quality speakers, one person will favour one over another due to the perceived depth and breadth of sound delivery.

Hello Spudman
From what Harry F describes I believe I also have the quieter Librands twin exit on my car (fitted by previous owner), and I think it's perfect. Can anyone advise how I tell what system it is? Are there markings on the silencers?
Perhaps you should try and get in cars with the different systems. If you are ever in Toulouse I'd happily give you a ride in my 2002 S1 (yellow of course).
Cheers

There are quad pipe rear exit (4 round pipes) and the quieter dual pipe (with an oval style tip). The quads are a little louder than the dual pipes.

Whether you get the quad or twin pipe exhaust depends on what model your S1 is I believe. Earlier cars get the twin pipe (I had on my old car) and slightly later cars get teh quad pipe.
I have to say that the quad sounds fuller and louder than the twin as the sound contest earlier this year determined.

They sounded good Spudgun, but it was a different sound to the MMC ones which have what is I believe a deliberate down-sizing of the pipe diameter in the system in order to give that distinctive sound that an Aero has in full flight with them. If you really want the manufacturers name I can try and track it down, but if you are going the Librands way, I don't suppose it is really necessary. For me, I wouldn't cut the wings of a Series I to accommodate side-pipes, but from the Series II onwards they are de rigueur; all imho, of course.

Thank you all for the input gentlemen. I contacted Librands, and they've told me there's only 1 exhaust version available for the S1, the one with the 4 round pipes. I know I will get chastised for this comment... but!, I personally find the Librands rear exhaust to be a much fuller, robust sound. That's what I thought based on the soundvids. Was afraid to get banned here. I wouldn't cut the wings of a Series I to accommodate side-pipes. You have a valid point, Aeroman. I think Librands have a new customer on the way.

By the way, I've also sent an email to the factory regarding the sidepipe install a week ago. Never had any reply. I know some of you suggested to phone them but frankly, if you don't reply a simple email to your customers abroad, why bother? Librands, here I come!
