I drove the new Plus 4 the other day thinking that maybe it was time for an upgrade and that the new engine would be a step up in performance from my old Plus 4 and I have to say I was massively disappointed. The engine felt a bit stodgy and I really couldn't tell the difference in power from my 92 M16.

It made me think that Morgan really are missing a trick. There is so little difference in performance between the Plus 4 and the 4/4 that frankly they shouldn't bother with both models.

What they need to build to better fill the gap between the 4/4 and the Roadster is a Plus 4S with the 2 litre engine tuned to about 180BHP.

I'd buy that in a heartbeat whereas right not I can't see much point in replacing my current car unless it is with a Roadster which perhaps is what I'll do though the price point is obviously higher.

Or just get the S1 Roadster. laugh2 love

I agree though 180 bhp would make a differnce, but my t16 +4 had torque where as my Zete 4/4 didn't unless reve3d to death

Buy a plus 4 , put some throttle bodies on it and or put some faster cams in , get the manifold off and get a Librands manifold ! My plus 4 was 180 bhp when I bought it about a month ago , now its circa 220 bhp ! Its brilliant ! Ring Northants motorsport and ask what can be done to a duratec 2litre engine - masses !!

I guess there is a problem with the gear ratio. On 5th gear what is the rpm at 60 mph on the new PLUS 4?

On my 2005 PLUS 4, 2200 rpm at ~55 mph. If the car could reach 6600 rpm (max), the speed would be 165 mph (270 km/h) !!!
5th gear is an overdrive.

For me, a real concern, and I guess the maximun speed you can get is with the 4th gear. I never try.

On my opinion, no more power is needed but an adjustement on the gearbox and axle ratio to get 5500rpm or 6000 rpm at 110 mph (180 km/h) and you get the maximun torque at 4500 rpm with a speed of 85 mph (140 km/h) on highways.

The drive will be more funny with stunning acceleration.

5th gear is also an overdrive in a duratec plus 4 , need to get a closer ratio in mine too !

What was your spec at 180bhp and now at 220bhp?

I am sure we are all interested is how you can get so much extra power for so little work. Thats equivalent of a S1 roadster with a 3L engine.

It's a fair point and I love the roadster and I may go that route. It just feels like a big miss to put out a car with a new engine with so much unrealised potential. The 4/4 is a great entry level Mog so why not given the plus 4 a bit more power straight out of the box?
