Well, I registered 12 months ago and have spent the time lurking and learning, not wishing to make any apprentice Morgan owner mistakes.

Last November I bought, sight unseen, a 62-plate 3.7 Roadster from Richard Thorne Classic Cars. A test drive was offered but I was convinced that a ten mile drive would be more likely to put me off and that I would need time to live with the car before becoming a convert. The worst case scenario was that I would realise my folly and move along. I've lost enough on other cars to not let that bit influence my decision.

The Roadster certainly stood out from the rest of my fleet, partly in the happy, 'smile factor' way that you all seem to recognise. No one disliked the car and I only ever had positive comments about it from car-buffs and passers-by alike. Privately I had mixed feelings with 'How can they possibly sell something this bad?' being common. I had originally thought that something so simple, yet hand-built, would result in a car with an old-school, beautifully engineered charm. Oh dear....

I've spent the last 12 months enjoying improving the car and driving it whenever I could. I think that the upgrade tally runs to about £5 per mile - better than the starting point but silk purses and sows ears and all that....

So, the irony is that I am saying hello on here as Kingpin when I no longer have one to my name - a kingpin that is, as Morgan has somehow got under my skin.

I'm the new owner of the Nordkapp Plus 8 and it's what I was expecting the first time round, just with more power. And noise.

Cheers everyone

Mark

Mark, as the person who did the first 1,000 miles in that Plus 8, I wish you many happy miles behind the wheel. Like all the Nordkapp cars, it has a special place in my heart.
