CBY and co, I have the handbook for my 89 Plus Four in front of me and note that there is not a lot of difference between then and now. Gear ratios: 1st.3.32 2nd.2.09 3rd.1.39 4th.1.00 5th.0.79 @4500 Omex Mph quoted per 1000rpm 1st.5.82 26.19 mph 2nd.9.23 41.535 mph - 54mph 3rd.13.90 62.550 mph - 80mph 4th.19.31 86.895 mph - 100mph 5th.24.41 109.845 mph Final drive ratio. 3.73:1
Ibs/ft torque @ 4500rpm. 131
I don't yet know what my mph per 1000 is now after the Omex work or whether the gear ratios match, although something doesn't add up. Speeds in gears post Omex to the right. i.e the ones I have so far. I'll update when I know more. Fascinating stuff. p.s I can't make my columns straight!

p.s I can't make my columns straight! It is impossible, as far as I can see, because the forum software ignores multiple space and tabs.

To be fair it's not the fault of the forum software, it is how HTML behaves. What this forum lacks, which some forums have, is the ability to create tables.

In order to finalize this analysis with the datas of cerealsurfer and the curve provided by Peter. 3 comparisons : (A) - 2005 PLUS 4 standard gear box and standard 142 BHP Duratec motor (B) – standard gear box and 180 BHP tuned motor with throttle bodies and a Librands exhaust (curve given by Peter) (C) – 2005 PLUS 4 with standard motor 142 BHP and race ratios given by cerealsurfer rear axle 4,1:1 5th 0,87:1 final 3,57:1 4th 1:1 final 4,1:1 All the 3 configurations use the standard tyres : 195*60 R15 The available power with the race gear (C) and the standard motor below 160 km/h (~100 mph) is better than with the tuned 180 BHP motor and may allow better accelerations. The tuned 180 BHP motor with the standard box is better over 160 km/h. In the standard configuration, with 5th gear you get only 125 bhp @ 190 km/h which is the maximum speed. With the race gear box you get 141 bhp which is the maximum of the power curve. You can use all the power area. At maximun rpm, 6675 rpm with 5th gear the theorical speed will be : standard gearbox : 270 km/h race gearbox : 217 km/h Instead of a tuned motor, Morgan must propose a short gearbox. I have a Ford PUMA and the 5th gear ratio is very close to the race box : 130 km/h @ 4000 rpm.

Ha ha! Very nice, you got around the table posting problem by posting an image.
The problem with the forum software is that it does not allow posting of HTML. I'm sure that is to avoid security problems and inappropriate content.

Exactly - you can make more with less!! And it will feel more "alive" to drive.

I'm sorry but being a bit provocative here, I just don't get it, Ive tuned cars myself in the past and its a case of diminishing returns for the money you spend. If you want more bhp and more importantly torque why not buy a Mog with a bigger engine in the first place it will probably be more reliable in the long term, and probably cheaper overall?

If you want more horses & grunt - you need more cubes! It is how I'm thinking too. A lot of money can be spent on mods and it still not be right and unlikely to get your money back. A friend of mine who is big into racing from Healeys to F5000 in his spare time advised me to keep it pretty standard as he believes it's a better proposition to buy second hand rather than the unknown of being greatly modified. It's all about choices!

Unfortunately Morgan have a big hole in their product range. There is nothing between 154hp and 280hp. Not everyone wants the grunt of the 3.7 V6 in a trad chassis. Also in some countries the cost of tax and insurance is too high for the Roadster. Personally if I was going to have to pay that sort of cost of ownership I would want a much more sophisticated car. I like the idea of a Plus 8 but that is yet another step up in the cost of ownership.
