In conversations with the factory the other day over what was being planned to mod the new GDI engine mention was made that consultations with an F1 team over a turbo for this engine. Now the driver in me is interested but I would think some traditionalists would not approve. What does the Mog team think? RogT 4/4 Sand

If people don't like it they just don't need to buy that model. Might work well for those markets where the engine size still matters for taxation where as larger engine models are too punitive.

Did I read somewhere that Ford already do a turbo version of this engine? If so, it would appear an easy job to fit using OE parts and just re-map the software.

It doesn't make a lot of sense as the current 2.0l Ecoboost engines turn out at least 240 hp and torque that competes with the 3.7 Roadster. The 1.6l Ecoboost that turns out 182hp may be better. The advantage of a turbocharged engine is the development of high torque at relatively low rpm.
Personally I think I would prefer a low boost supercharger.

Does this possibly indicated that Ford will no longer sell just the engine and they have to take an engine package as a whole?

Morgan are indeed planning to use the 1.6 Ecoboost engine straight from Ford. No need to "consult" on turbocharing the GDi when you can just buy a GTDi in a fully integrated package.

If ford release the ecoboost to morgan it will be a real peach, as you say in 2ltr form it will deffinately give the roadster a run for its money and handle better,IF it does happen the 1600 ecoboost might well have my name on it

The big issue with Turbocharging in a Morgan is going to be the heat problem, and this will come in two aspects. One is that turbo engines generally require a larger capacity cooling system as, even with an intercooler, the inlet charge is at a higher temperature so the whole gas cycle runs hotter, and this requires more cooling.
The second, and in my opinion the more important for a trad Morgan, is where to mount the turbo so it does not heat up either the engine bay, or any surrounding bodywork.
I too prefer supercharging, and ran my +4 with a blower for a period. Despite great low down performance it was beset with heat problems, and it never gave the top end grunt I was looking for. Ditching it and going back to high compressions and 2 twin choke Webers was one of my better decisions.
