It does seem the metal/plastic radiators used by MMC were not of robust enough quality.
When they go it seems plastic fails and all the water dumps....

Not good enough, a rad should last 15-20 years, but there isn't a lot we can do.

Are the new MMC rads better? Who knows?

But if I had to replace a rad I suspect I'd replace it with a MulFab item....

Ray when i was in the services a lifetime ago i remember we had to check for loose currents when fitting large alloy rads with multi testers or corrosion would occur,we can discuss the merits of an alloy rad with our metalagist friend at the next meet sospan likes to talk technical

Hello again,

Thank you for your answers and suggestions.
I've already heard and read about the Mulfab radiators.
But I wanted to know whether it is possible to repair this angle piece or if someone has an idea how it can be repaired.
My local dealer already told me to that I would have to change the radiator. But thats the expensive solution.
So if the repair can't be done, I will have to change the radiator but I wanted first to try perhaps another solution.

Had a similar problem with a BMW 740i. Found that in the USA it was possible to buy a kit with the plastic elbow for a few dollars, while over here there was no sign of such an option.
I ended up replacing the radiator because of time pressures!

Hello,

This morning I spoke to a kind mechanic from a german dealer.
He explained me how the plastic elbow could be repaired and he even sent me some photos.
They encountered this problem several times.
So I'll try my best to do the repair.

Perhaps you would share the photos and instructions for the repair -- You never know when a fellow Morgan owner might need them!!!!!! -(hopefully not me!!)

Hello Robbie
Yes I can do that. But then I have to translate his answer into English.
Here I'll try: (Without warranty)
You have to insert 2 flat screwdrivers on the places marked by the 2 red arrows on the first picture.
Do not insert the screwdrivers on the place marked by the green circle.
You have to do this carefully. It needs some pressure and force to do this. When done correctly the upper part will pop off.
On this upper part you can see a rubber sealing ring (or is it gasket?) that has to be replaced. He writes that you can try to insert a sealing ring that is 0, 5 mm thicker than the original one.
He also says to re-enforce the 2 big hose fittings by inserting 2 stainless steel rings. The hose fittings often break when the hose clamps are tightened too much.
(On the pic you can see the left one). The stainless steel rings must fit correctly.
They always do this when the radiator is demounted.
I hope my translation is not too bad and it helps together with the pics.
But as I said: Without warranty and on your own risks.
