Hi,
A while ago i posted that my left wheel nearly fell off since that time its been in the garadge getting fixed.
The garadge contacted the Norwegian main dealer and they sent up parts bit by bit. First came a hub for 300GBP and then came a stub axle for 900 GBP. Thatjust seems an extraordinary price, anyone else had a similar price for a stub axle
Although these do seem to be the right parts according to the morgan catelog they have to be sent off to the university for machine tooling at 200 GBP per hour as there not quite right and the king pin cant be fitted as holes are missing.
The actually work will be a few hundred pounds, im almost crying at the expense its looking like almost 2000GBP for the entire fix. Im wondering if i would have a similar bill in england or if it would be much cheaper. At some point im guessing it would be cheaper to just ship the car to a garadge in england and have them fix it. The prices here just seem absurd.

Sounds very expensive to me, but the possibilty to Ship abroad could incur further unseen charges !!! My sympathy

At those prices I think with the benefit of hindsight you would have been better off with your suggestion of shipping the car back or even to Germany for repair. Unfortunately these repairs just "grow" sometimes and you have no option but to bite the bullet and pay. You have my sympathy I guess most experienced drivers have experienced a similar situation I know I have on a previous tintop whilst on holiday and it's painful  It will make getting behind the wheel again even more precious  :xmassmile:

It sounds a bit expensive but by the tme everybody sticks on their margin the price goes up and up.I cant understand sometimes the stories you hear when people insist and sometimes adding 500 mls takeing their cars back to malvern when out of warranty. It is a simple car to service after all,digging a big hole and waiting for the flack,where did i put my hard hat..

My sympathy. I used to sell production machines for ice cream. All the profit came from spares!

I agree with you on both points, taking the Car back to Malvern, but perception of care = ££££ in value when selling on, also KingPins even in my day on the tools 1978-95, lots of garages wouldnt take on the task of changing KingPins, quoting they did not have the tooling to complete the job, its a fiddly job to do, the accurate reaming can take some time=

Stub axles on Melvyn Rutter site are about £330 hub about £150 so it looks like you are a victim of Norways high cost of living.

Dean i agree regarding king pins but many a private small garage would tackle them,what i dont get is the service situation its a mondeo engine or an escort.I bet in your trade you have many customers that would put the factory paint shop to shame let alone the small dealers.Ilove my morgan to bits but i sometimes wonder that some people have a grander idea of what is essentially a very simple car easy to work on mechanically and body.

It seems a bit odd that the" correct " parts supplied then needed expensive machining to be fitted? Shouldn't they have been a simple(!) bolt on fit? Have you queried this? As for price....in general dealers tend to be expensive citing genuine parts and specialist training/ skills etc. in many cases this leads to falsely inflated cost. Sometimes this could be justified. Years ago my mate's wife worked a a local German car dealership and the stories about inflated prices etc were horrific! Mind you the customers must bear some blame....going to them for tyres when identical tyres are available cheaper at specialists? That's taking service history credibility too far in my book! Finding a garage that has proper mechanics these days is not easy. Too many mainstream types are " technicians" and lack the old traditional skills and knowledge. If you find a good mechanic pamper him! There are old established Morgan dealers who have that DNA in their blood . Stay with them...and MMC....please keep them in business!!!!!  The Morgan " package" includes after sales for me. When buying a Morgan you buy into so much more than the car itself. In some ways it is like an extension to your family! Warts and all!  Now joining Aerotaff in hiding!
