Took a round trip of 150 miles to get HDY's annual servive at BHM they are a great bunch what other garage would be happy for a customer to sit around watching and discussing the service drinking copious amounts of their tea and coffee! Great drive back topless in the dark. Best day of the week so far!

Williams are very similar, Roger : it amazes me how Chunky will happily chat whilst working on your P&J ! I don't mind having the occasional route learner up front with me in my HST cab but it slightly puts me on edge !!

I would hope that most of the Morgan dealers are like this : if they aren't, we are, indeed, prepared to do a round trip of 150 miles or more to find one that does!

Happy holidays everyone :xmaslights:

Took the Plus 8 out today: roads a bit damp but it was warm and dry so a good say for a run.

On a dead straight and level but of the A33 between Whiteparish and Romsey I thought it was time to push the envelope a bit. At about 40mph, in sport mode I firmly but slowly applied full throttle.

That was interesting...as the revs built up the car started to squirm and move sideways as the rear wheels struggled for grip on the greasy, but good, tarmac. Foot eased off the pedal and all returned to normal.

This car demands great respect and in sport mode the throttle needs to be treated gently when the road is anything other than bone dry. I can see how it would be possible to lose the back of the car...!

I repeated the exercise in normal mode and it was uneventful...very fast, very noisy, but the car did nothing unexciting. Sport mode changes much including the response rate and effect of the throttle. in these conditions I think the autobox selector is best left in normal mode....

Peter as you know the Roadster can also bite in the wet. Glad you are having fun!

Mark, Graham, John,

Indeed...the Plus 8 is just a bit more likely to respond to careless handling with a degree of unpleasantness.

Interesting comment from a BMW technician. The Plus 8 has ABS and EBD, so it has all the sensors needed for traction control and stability control. The BMW "brain" that controls engine and gearbox is ready and waiting for these inputs.
It seems MMC chose not to apply these features.

A good solution would to have these features enabled when the transmission is in normal mode and disabled in sport mode. I think MMC missed a trick here.

As much as a Plus 8 is something I'd love to own, I think one of the reasons I love my 4/4 so much is that its very predictable and can be slung around without too much of a worry that it'll bite. I drove both a while back and they are very different animals, personally I just like the lightness and simplicity of the smaller engine, perhaps is just a little closer to the classic motoring style of driving? Almost all of my driving is on little lanes and in no particular hurry.

Still a lovely car though..
