My 4/4 is converted from RHD to LHD.......!

LHD car, wipers park to the left of the car (that is to say right if you are standing in front of the car but who looks at their wipers from in front of the car?). This is wrong for a LHD car as the area in front of the driver should be swept so that the blade finishes near vertical near the driver's side windscreen pillar. RHD cars should have wipers that park to the left hand side of the car and vice versa. I never thought about it before but on reflection I am surprised it is not a requirement for homologation.

The only car I know which had the "wrong" wipers parking position in relation to the steering wheel position was the very early Porsche 911/912, I think 1965/1966 only. When my former 2011 Plus 4 Super Sport was converted to LHD I noticed the RHD parking position of the wipers (parked on the right seen from inside) and my dealer changed it to deliver a good sight in the rain when driving LH as a part of the conversion package.

I guess with a shallow screen and three small wipers it clears enough area to be visible? on larger screens they have to use the vertical to the drivers side as the unswept area would intrude more into the drivers line of sight and quite often cars have asymmetric sweep areas and wiper blade sizes to facilitate the drivers view more clearly.

Lucky they aren't manual I guess?

The centre spindle on the trads is dead centre, based on my observations, but on the new Plus 8 the centre spindle is offset, at least on Peter's. Presumably to increase the swept area on the wider screen.

Jokes aside, I have been thinking about this and I think that the position of the stems of the wipers on the trad Morgan are symmetrical so to get the best coverage the blades need to park on the driver's side, whichever that may be. The ends of the arms are bent slightly so the blades can park parallel, and close to, the lower part of the windscreen frame. For this reason they don't sweep equally to the left and right. Note that the arms would therefore be different for LHD and RHD cars. The wiper motor also has to be set for left or right parking.

If the stems are offset to give a better coverage for the driver the stems are offset to the driver's side, the blades park to the passenger side and when they complete their stroke the driver's side blade comes a near as possible to vertical near the driver's side windscreen pillar. Morgan have used this system on the new Plus 8.

It would be very easy for Morgan to adopt offset wipers to the trad series too. It would be a very small design modification.

My wipers park in what appears to be the usual fashion for a left hand drive car. The car was shipped directly to Sterne Motors in Victoria B.C.when built. I have owned it since 1982. I doubt that any changes have been made in the wiper configuration.
The only change that I would like to make to them is to improve the anemic job they do in removing water from the windscreen. On the occasions when I have been caught in the rain, it has been better to leave them off than turn them on. Rain-X does a better job in clearing the rain off.
