It is really just a game now.

Good luck

Exactly the same...They try and put it up, I phone and say "if you do I'll leave" so they don't.
It is a silly game I could do without, but with an Aero Plus 8 and no spare I want recovery and return to home....

We have been covered with Britannia for some years now. We had a bad experience with Green Flag. Our daugher had an accident and the recovery agent didn't give her the option of back home or on to her destination. Instead took the car back to their depot then charged many pounds per day storage until I could get the car recovered and brought home. We have never used Green Flag since.

Thanks, everyone. Several have remarked that this is a silly, irritating game and I have to agree. Maybe I am naïve but I don’t normally haggle; if the initial price offer (of anything, not just breakdown cover) doesn’t suit I go elsewhere. But taking advice here I had an entertaining session on the phone this afternoon with the AA, the result of which was that they reduced the price by £86. That’ll do nicely.

And on the question of the tactics of the game, the “Press 2” option was “if you want to leave us”. That resulted in 15 minutes of waiting and I eventually rang off with the distinct impression that they were ignoring me. I called back straight away and pressed option 1 “if you want to re-new” and, like magic, I was answered immediately. Funny, that…

That looks like a bargain. Too late for me now, but I have bookmarked the page for next year. When you say you have used them for years and no problems, do you mean calling them out, or re-newing without getting ripped off? If the former, is the response time good and the service effective?

And do they cover older cars?
Green Flag and many like them stop at around 17 years. One reason I went back to RAC. Though I know it will be a phone call to bring the price back down again next renewal.

Yes Graham, they don't ask about your vehicles it is the person (s) that are insured. The way it works is you phone them if you break down and they send the nearest recovery agent to you. It's much quicker than the others. You pay the recovery on your card and send them the receipt and you get a cheque back by return post. Never had any problems in 20 years.

I cover the Audi via my HSBC account, costs about £10.00 per month and the Mog gets covered as included with my Headley Insurance.

Ford cover my Fiesta as a by-product of having it serviced by a Ford main dealer. I have taken advantage of this for a few years now. Not sure about their call-out response though. Like Tuftie66 the Mog is covered by insurance through Headley (at a modest additional cost).
