if he wants it so that he can plug in mobile devices he could consider a USB socket. I have fitted a double USB socket under the dash near the existing lighter socket.

Make sure you wire the polarity of the socket correct.

Well John you can probably guess that we thought a two pin plug was easy but after a couple of blown fuses, I took the plug off and discovered the + and - signs!
All is well now. Thanks to everyone for their replies. Have a good weekend everyone.
