I think comparing a corporate commercial website and a TM post is spurious. Amusing though...

But letting through bad grammar and spelling seems to happen too often at Morgan HQ and is perhaps just a tad indicative of other occasions of a lack of attention to detail... Hrmphhhh! Or perhaps I can have a job there as pedant in chief? Along with quite a good number of us on this wonderful organ.

I'm sure with a few of us lot in the pre-delivery bay paid in beer tokens and car vouchers we'd see a lot less silly stuff in the cars getting to customers.

Do`nt get I startid!!! bad grammer wind`s me up a`s wel.
Reminds me of one of the 2 best bits of grafitti I ever saw - on the Students` Union Gents` Toilet wall " Yesterday I couldn`t spell engineer - now I are one".
Number one was (surprisingly) by the light switch in the toilet of a Franciscan Friary " A light unto the Genitals".
Classy , both of those

I think that sloppy grammar and punctuation is alive and well in the IT generations who write little, and txt often.

My company employs quite a lot of non-Brits in European sales, We recently got a professional training company in to run a course on writing in English, it was an older lady (so not someone of the texting generation) and I was horrified by some of the things she said, like the (proper) use of apostrophes doesn't matter any more! even implying it was incorrect.
What hope is there? ooo

I suppose that the written word will morph over time anyway. We may not 'approve' of 'progress' but we certainly can't stop it happening. Eventually txt speak may become the norm for written English.

Do you recall when computers first arrived in the office, that many people wrote in upper case? We had a lot who did that at the start of things.

One of the few advantages of dyslexia is that the sort of errors detailed in previous posts generally pass me by. I just don't see them.

For all pedants with an English affliction I commend them to the fine publication "Eats, Shoots and Leaves".

The Proper Way!

Tonight I shall be watching Arthur and George on ITV.
Arthur Conan Doyle bio drama.
We read a lot of his books in school due to the good grammar therein.

It stems from much earlier than that Dave.
My Sister was approx. 2.5 years younger than I. While I had a very strict teacher of English (name of Morse), my Sister's English teacher told my parents, when queried about her spelling and punctuation, "Oh, we don't worry about that, it's more important to encourage creativity. The technical bits can follow later". They didn't!
That would have been in the early 70s... Mind you, I wish I could remember all that I was taught!

Looking forward to the Arthur Conan Doyle series beginning tonight... smile
