I have friend in Oz P Bellenger who was an international tennis umpire (he sent Macenroe of the court in that famous the ball was not out incident). He quit at 60 & certainly is having a ball. You can't take it with you. I intend to ski it

I set up my pensions to retire at 55- in 30 months time- and whilst one half of the brain looks forward to long days aimlessly cruising in the Morgan- the other half is saying " stay in- you love it really"

So not really decided what I want to do- I guess I'll make my mind up when the time comes.

Peter- like you- whenever that time comes- an M3W will be my retirement present to myself.

I have seen several collegues who planned their retirement and very sadly didn't make it. My opinion is, if you can afford it, retire as early as you can and make the most of it. From experience, as you get older, the body plays up, things become more difficult to do and if you are very unlucky, health concerns limits ones options.

Life is short, its not a rehearsal, make the most of it.

My "professional" life is ticking along nice - nothing overly exciting, but comfortable.

My sideline has expanded quite nicely - and after many years of doing it for favours last year it earned me money. Assuming the workload continues post-Geneva I am looking at a 10x increase in turnover this year. I may also start looking for new clients.

With 2 & a bit years to go it is I agree not an easy call but I also don't want to spend another 5 years flying around the world. The boss & I plan a gap year instead. Time will tell I guess.

I had everything planned for retirement at 65; but at the age of 60 was diagnosed with an illness. Lots of time off work and I struggled on until my 62nd birthday, when I retired.
I miss parts of my job; I miss the banter; but retirement is great. Financially it was a bit of a struggle, but that will improve when I hit 65 (this month)
Time for my mates; time to do nothing, if I feel like it; time to watch people still at work, still rushing about.

Trust me, if you are still fit and well consider yourself very lucky and make sure you enjoy life.

I decided I'd had enough of the workplace last May at 63 and it's been one of the best decisions ever - you get your life back.

Keeping in touch and having time for your ex work colleagues is an added bonus.

My long term aim was to retire at 55.
Circumstances changed and it was put back.
I did retire early at 52 from my long term job as the package was excellent, the aim being to work elsewhere until the finances hit my target.
They did in 2013 and I retired June 2014.
Very strange at first but growing on me!
2015 will be when I branch out and do things/ go places a bit more.
swmbo jnr is expecting twins in May....can't wait!
swmbo has already planned to spend time with them on a regular basis leaving me home alone.
As the twins grow I will be happily occupied with them too.
2015 calendar is filling up fast!
I miss some of the banter from work but not the restrictions which were far too dominant and affecting home life too much in the last job (8 years).
My advice to anyone is plan for retirement as much as possible with a target date( with flexibility).
Make sure you have interests/ hobbies/plans ready for retirement...my tobacco industry job retirement package included a pre retirement course.
So...get yourselves sorted early and work towards a goal.
Hopefully you can stay on course and above all, get your brain tuned in for retirement.
