As your online train driving correspondent I feel the need to bring the following PLANNED chaos to your collective attention.

For any of you who either regularly or occasionally travel through Bath Spa on the rails, Box tunnel will be closed for the WHOLE of the school summer hols ie 18 July to 31 August. Buses will operate and some London train will start at Bath then go back to Bristol before going on to London. It will be hell on earth at peak times so my advice:

DRIVE YOUR MORGAN (or tin top nono) to London (or Swindon) for the duration.

Can't they just get up a decent bit of speed before they get to the tunnel, then drop the catenary and just coast through?

smile

It is 1.83 miles long and on a 1 in 100 gradient. Possibly OK one way - how do you get back?

I thought that Brunel's broad gauge also allowed more headroom...
How much extra height is needed for the wires over the standard loading gauge?

Oh well, wonder if we will get diversions through Salisbury? Probably not. Would be nice to see the 125s on the line.
