John, I had exactly the same free entry to the kit car show. Many people turn their noses up at kit cars, but there are some superb replicas of Ferraris' and Lambos' which are extremely well made and finished and are extremely difficult to tell from the real thing. All enthusiasts and very proud of their cars, same as Morgan owners really.

These are the people MORGAN should be trying to attract, with a sensibly priced entry level trad.

I must go one year. Many moons ago I was tempted by one or two kit cars, but never did anything... smile

Every time I go to Stoneleigh for the Kit Car show I get seriously tempted by the idea of building a kit car. Maybe a retirement project?

If you build one of these it's probably because you'd really like a genuine one but simply can't afford one at present.

Exactly: years ago, about 1978 my neighbour built a NG TC Roadster, based on the remains of a rusted out MGB. He wanted a Morgan or a classic MG TF but couldn't afford the real thing.

It wasn't ar all bad, but he had to re use the MG suspension and shocks, through lack of funds. It rode reasonably, looked good but was far more basic than a Mog, the lack of hood and side screens made it a very fair weather car.

I think he sold it in about 2002 and if you discount the hours of labour, got back about what he paid for it.

Known as Gladys, after Gladys Pugh (Ruth Madoc) in the Hi-de-hi TV show as it gave him total satisfaction:
The car was cited in his divorces...

Have to confess it's the way that I've come into the M3W actually. I'd always hankered after a three wheeler Morgan, could never afford one so very nearly went the kit car route via JZR.

Went up to Darwen and had a few hours with John Ziemba in his workshop, but whilst the excitement was there the offset props haft was a pain in the bum..!!

As someone has already mentioned, there are some VERY quality pieces out there. Some of the Jaguar creations are now classics in their own right. Some however, are best left to smallest room reading rack..

I went to Stoneleigh a few years ago when I was considering a kit.
I went to see the Raw Stryker seven style car. I held out though and bought a 4/4 instead!
There are some awesome cars to be had and also some horrors!
All the main players were there and you could find cars from lowŁk to top end at aŁ50k+.
There were some clones, body mod kits to create replicas such as Ferrari on a MX5 donor!
Ferrari apparantly took exception and rightly so!
The majority of cars were Lotus7 variants in addition to Caterham and Cobra variants.
A couple of nice old Jag replica kits.
Gardner- Douglas has some great Cobras and a Lola.
Ultima had their Cars too- superb.
A number of kit companies have come and gone over the last few years but the industry is still a good place to look. Some handy sources of components/ parts etc..

I built a Davrian kit car back in my teens only weighd about 4 cwt with an imp 875 sport engine soon to be replaced with a howling 9000 rev hartwell 998. Took her to Germany when i was posted abroad, sold it to a German i met in the local car club but kept the engine which went into three other cars .I often wonder what happened to the Davrian.
