Spanner juggler designed and fitted to his car and mine an adaptation of a Caterham engine cover which sits on top of the duratec and now keeps water out when the car is washed or goes through a rain shower.

Penetrating oil has worked for me on zetec. Go carefully though with the spanner as said before

Rob - good idea of a cover - any details of it for the Duratec - assume it would fit a GDI?

I don't think the two are similar enough to be compatible, but it's simple enough to make one up if you can manage a sheet of aluminium.

Another reason why the GM Ecotec engine is such a good solution for Morgans, they have a neat waterproof cover that keeps all the water and crap out of the spark plug well.

Tim, Have you moved the indicators to the wings?

A quick check this morning after this post to see that my plugs were all ok (I remember seeing another Duratec Morgan in my local garage with a plug stuck).

I’m puzzled. My question is… If I have no louvers and the car rarely gets caught in any rain, how does so much moisture get to the plugs?

I’m often under the bonnet and have never seen a wet rocker cover (maybe because it’s usually warm enough to dry any water). So could this just be condensation from moisture laden trapped rocker fumes around the plug as the engine cools and the ambient outside temperature is low. Just poor atmospheric sealing on the underside of the rocker cover?

Roger.Looks like you have had some water under there by the corner of the rocker bolts,mine were much worse but i did use the car all weathers.All the Fords have the plastic covers and is not an issue,whip them out once a year for best practice and i wouldent worry too much about it.

Here is my solution. I too use a modified Catterham cover.


Dave will probably notice the neoprene strip used as an additional seal.
