It looks as though the ZZ3s are on the way out, Avon no longer lists the sizes needed for the Plus 8: the range on offer is much reduced.
Reading various reports on the web seems to confirm exactly what you report. So I guess when these need replacing I'll be looking at ZZ5, or whatever i Avon's top tyre.

Yes, that's it Peter - I was told the ZZ3 was no longer available almost a year ago, and the ZZ5 was the replacement tyre.
At the time I was keen on Toyo / Yokohama as alternatives but was warned that the tyre profile could cause connection with wheelarches in extremis (I think this was probably excessive caution...) but I have been very happy with the ZZ5s and if you compare the db noise they are claimed to be a very quiet tyre which is definitely my experience. I run them at 25 - 26psi all round which is plenty but allows them to get warm if thrashed a bit.
They've been round Le Mans for parade laps in the rain and despite a very slippery surface (lots of oil dropped by old and very old cars!) I got up to 125mph on the speedo with a lot of other cars around albeit a bit of fishtailing in 3rd gear.
