Good idea, or not?
Last summer I participated in an MSCC regional centre run to Colditz in eastern Germany. En route we stopped for a night at the Moehne Dam. So when I saw this item for sale it was a “must-have”. The un-verified story goes that it came off the dashboard of a 1937 MG TA used be an RAF officer to tour North Rhine-Westphalia immediately post-war. It is 2” in diameter and my intention was to affix it to the dashboard of Baby Blue. But I’ve paused in that intent because it occurs to me that when the day comes to sell the car, as it surely will, will the presence of the medallion add or detract to the appeal? Will it represent an attractive curiosity that says a little something about the travel history of my car, or will it put off a potential buyer who has no affinity or interest in Moehnesee – and, worse, taking it off will reveal two screw holes in the dashboard? What do you think?

That’s it then – double sided tape. I was considering this, together with dummy screw heads and your replies have convinced me; thanks everyone. But double sided foam tape? Can you point me towards the brand? I can’t go with Blutack – got to keep the medallion as safe as possible from souvenir hunters when parked. That's a lovely badge Steve - I have a roll of this tape if you like I can post you some if you p.m. me.

Nice offer, Richard, thank you. But as it happens I've just returned from Halfords with a roll of tape. Now to get the Dremel out and cut the screw heads off...

I'm glad you are sorted out that must be a pretty rare badge - certainly in this country.

What I really need is to do (to the picture, not the badge) is to put a third round screw head in the centre just above the dam wall and give it a bit of Photoshop spin and motion blur - but then that would be silly, wouldn't it?

What a lovely item!
My father was there in 1946 during the clearing up operations & has two 10x8" photo's of the dam showing the repairs very clearly.
Would love to have a drive over to replicate the pics..

You can still see the paler stone where the dam was repaired all these decades later. I enjoyed my time there although I was missing my black Labrador.

Doesn't Sperrmauer translate to 'barrier' or 'wall', meaning Dam in this context?
