To the contrary, it would be normal for a manufacturing company to do that. People have a holiday entitlement and the last thing you want is for them to take it a few days at a time whenever they want and leaving you short manned. So closing the factory for a week or two takes 5 or 10 working days out of everyones holiday entitlement in the most convenient way for the business.

Thats certainly what I did with the business I ran. Employees were left with maximum 5 holiday days that they could take when the factory was working albeit even then it had to be at a time convenient for the business.

Shutdown is a decision that will vary for different businesses/sectors.
In the steelworks I was at mid summer stop weeks allowed major works to take place. The finishing end worked some production to keep dispatches going to customers.
In the car radiator factory we closed to match the car plants closure, but a warehouse stayed open for after market sales.
Closures are a mix of getting essential works done with a need to manage customer delivery and staff holidays etc.
If MMC consider the closure to be a sensible option then so be it. Spares are handled via dealers so there shouldn't be major issues in a niche market.
I have been waiting for a part via Melvyn that he is waiting for the factory to supply.
It's been several weeks already so my criticism of MMC is with this type of long delay. OK they are not going to hold stocks of spares due to the variety of these and money tied up....but they need to look at speeding things up. My car is only 12 yrs old....young for a Morgan. Luckily it is not keeping me off the road.
I wonder how they manage bought in parts ordering in the factory? When I was a buyer our system threw up overdue orders we would then chase up. We also managed spares based on critical need and lead time.......6 weeks spares for a 4 week lead time for example.
Woe betide a production hold up due to no spares!

MMC shutdown is to allow the maintenance staff time to sharpen the chisels.
