Is anyone aware of other possibilities to prove the required skills in Chemistry that would be accepted by the universities? I thought of a test when applying for the studies, or maybe a semester or a year of studying Chemistry before entering for biomedical science.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks, Andy

Obviously follow the excellent advice to talk to the Universities and specialists who really do know the answer but something in my past reminds me of hearing that in order to work in a laboratory a Chemistary qualification was required, this was a health and safety driven requirement. That was some time ago but came from an accademic who worked in a University Laboritory, things could have changed but maybe that's the reason?

Hi
I have a son who has recently completed his Bio-Medical science degree. In his first year many of the students did not have the level of chemistry that he had studied. The first year was used as a levelling year, it allowed all students to achieve a similar understanding of all the topics required. It was frustrating for some students who were more advanced in their studies.
Bio medical science in the UK at some universities is an academic subject for those that want to work within a research environment, in other universities it is a practical subject aimed at preparing students to work within a hospital laboratory. Many of the students who have been studying this topic have been disappointed to find their prospects are not what they could have been due to recent advances in technology and the openings within the NHS are not as plentiful.
I am happy to talk of line if you require specific information.

regards

Thanks to everyone, this is very helpful to get a start in the right direction. Background information is always very helpful. I will come back to this thread after we discussed this and contacted people in university administration.

I knew that this is the right place to ask!

Andy
