Has anyone removed the rear view mirrors from their M3W?
In order to compete in our 5 Speeders at Loton Park next weekend we need to carry out this job before the scrutineers will allow us to get to the start line. Considering that the current 5 Speeder motorsport pioneers will be driving their cars to the event this chore will have to be done in the paddock upon arrival, unless we wish to contravene road traffic regulations en route
Yes we have objected, but whether it will make any difference....I doubt it
I suppose the reduced weight and drag will make us a little more competitive against the old boys (haha!!)
Any advice on how simple or how fiddly a job it is would be most welcome

If they're worried about the risk of broken glass, won't they just let you tape the mirrors over? Gerry.

The mirrors are useless when it doubles every competitor. Except see the grimace of competitor.
Good luck

A bit fiddlie to get to. You can access the nut if you take the panel off the skuttle under the bonnet. What might work is to remove the panel (10+ sheet metal screws) at home as I think you can run without it. Then the nuts can be easily reached.

What a weird regulation! I've seen no end of cars competing at hill climbs with mirrors fitted.
If you have no choice, could you replace the mirrors with ones that can easily unbolt from a fixed base?
I was hoping to watch you at Loton....unfortunately I have to go oop North for the weekend. Good luck!

At a guess, it's the ACU being odd, and if it had four wheels the MSA would be fine with it. They certainly were of that view when I last held a MSA speed licence.

The ACU still haven't woken up to the fact that it is more a car with three wheels than a bike with three wheels.

It sounds like a right faff if it means removing a panel from the skuttle under the bonnet (Thanks hbatts). I will investigate later this week. More important things to do first, like refitting the rear wheel...once I'm recovered from my dose of Man Flu
I had a feel behind the dashboard tonight and thought I could feel the nut at the end of the mirror stalk. I guess the backing plate will fall out onto the floor when it comes apart...then we will have to put it all back together to drive home after the event.
Whatever we do, there is a good risk eventually of damaging the chrome finish on the mirror stalks
We are currently attempting to get them to allow us to tape over the mirrors as suggested by Gerry
Thanks for all your help!

Planning to come up on Saturday- so I'll see how you've solved this pernickety problem. Gerry.

Whilst the ACU are being a pain, there are advantages to competing under their rules. 1/ Leathers, not silly fireproof cloth. I'm convinced in terms of risk this is much more sensible for many open cars. 2/ While I bet quite a lot of four wheelers don't comply, the battery earth lead with MSA should be yellow... (tape or a sleeve is ok though). There probably are other things, but I thought of those two this morning.
