Replacing the rear springs is perfectly do-able at home, you don't need a lift or anything, but it's a question of the more you are prepared to remove, the easier it is.
You need to remove the seats to get to the front mountings, and access to the rear links is a great deal easier if you remove the petrol tank. I did mine with the tank in place, but it was a bit of a fiddle.
The hard bit is getting the bolts into the front eyes. Assembly sequence is rear links, then fronts, then U bolts. When I did mine I clamped a steel bar to the spring so that it projected forwards, enabling my wife to stand on. That gave me enough room to poke the bolt through the eye.

Plus if you need to move the spring forward and are short of a person to pry bar the rear shackle a ratchet strap round the rear brake drum and up to the crosshead means you can fine adjust the ratchet forward to align, never had one that needed moving backwards, never removed a fuel tank but have had a neighbour stand on the spring extension before now ;-). A simple but totally miserable job to do, it's all nuts and bolts but a pain, especially if you want to get 4 seater springs into a 2 seater as I did to my own! Different set on the springs means even more to compress. The only difference with Tim's method and it's a personal thing, is I do fit the U bolts before the shackles as I prefer to struggle with the shackles than fiddle with those outer U bolt nuts!

Ah yes, it all comes flooding back me now! Colin's bang on here, the outer U bolt nuts are a complete and absolute PITA. Doing it the other way around may well be easier. I am not going to volunteer to strip and rebuild my rear springs just to find out, though.

It's a strenuous job, but not technically difficult. I didn't touch my tank.
