Nice to see that someone has got it! thumbs

Absolutely. If you want a modern car, buy one. It's not like there's a shortage to choose from!

Rog , any pics of these bump stops ! I'm glad to see you agree that the rear suspension needs modifying as many others on here do , Corvettes have or did have leaf springs at rear its just a case of fine tuning ! Don't you agree Jays ?

I agree, I got my Plus 8 to handle very well with Mulfab kit all round, very predictable. Panhard rod and finely tuned AVOs makes all the difference. However as the power gets higher like on a 3.7 Roadster it becomes a bit more tricky on the rear end. I am probably going to just add panhard rod, already have AVOs, and change front springs and under spring bearings to some from Mulfab ensuring rebound springs are not under compression when static. This based on previous experience should give a reasonable ride but good road holding when pushing it. Plus I like the feel of it as a trad.

Hope this helps. Obviously I would not advise anybody to copy this or modify their vehicle in any away. smile
I have modified my vehicle at my own risk and notified my insurers.

Here’s my original sketch. Beware all trads are different, these dimensions worked for me and obviously each side is handed.

This is an interesting thread: my plus four doesn't bottom out at all which may be luck or a combination of panhard and stiff shocks and stiffish springs but if it were to be a problem then I would make up something like Roger's which seems a very good idea. Thanks Roger.

The current Corvettes ( I would love one!) have composite transverse leaf springs I believe. I may be a traditionalist but I do like Roger's modification.

I like Roger's mod, but as I don't suffer any issues with my rear suspension bottoming out, I wouldn't consider it 'necessary' as such. But if I were to have the problem, I'd certainly do it his way.

Rog , that looks like a very sorted design , I wish I could do such things ! Very detailed drawings presumably you are coming from an engineering background ?

The problem is that with four people they sit on the bump stops leaving almost no suspension for compression. Adding air springs, one can adjust ground clearance depending on load and gain an inch of effective suspension travel. This transforms the handling of the car.

Harald – A very neat elegant solution. Brilliant work and good luck with it.

My original thought was to try and install a small secondary compression springs (similar to rebound springs) to assist the main spring at the end of its movement and improve comfort. There’s a little space envelope just forward of the axle where something could possibly be squeezed in and using the hoop to take the loads. I played around with a couple of ideas. I got as far as installing and trying PU springs but they were too stiff and did not feel right. At that point I tried a new set of leaf springs which made a significant difference. I thought my problem had gone but I found the suspension would still very occasionally bottom particularly when carrying luggage. However for now these little progressive bump stops appear to offer just enough control to solve my issue.
