Polished alloy cam cover?
Decided it would clean up the engine bay somewhat. Another cam cover was sourced from the local scrap dealer and with cleaning agents, wire brushes, stiched polishing mops and polishing compounds I went for it. Not for the faint hearted, after persevering I decided that it was not an easy task and the only way was to professionally get it polished or as an alternative I could paint it, to match the body colour myself.

Decided to paint, so did a test on the spare cover (above) The ‘16V Zetec’ was highlighted by just removing the paint and polishing before applying the lacquer.

The finished cover back in place. I used a self etching primer, followed by 4-5 light coats of 2K base, finished off with 3 coats of heat resistant lacquer.

Top job

I've often thought about a nice looking cam cover on my silver top Zetec as it just instantly improves the look of the engine
I've looked on eBay but for some reason chromed or polished covers just aren't available

Well done - it looks a treat!

Thanks for posting - agree it will look better but still not shiny enough to justify the change
