On Rover T16 +4 it certainly will.
When I first got the car I mistakenly switched the immobiliser on, not only would the engine turn over, it would also start! Then immediately stop. once when away it would turn over without firing. Switching immobiliser on for 30 seconds, then off again allowed the engine to start.

KASPOMOG it may be worth checking the shroud around the ignition switch, sometimes the car bit of the system can become detached and slide down inside the steering column, giving the intermittent problem you have, or sometimes no starting at all. Worth checking for that - if it has moved a dab of superglue to refit the sensor near the ignition switch is all that is required... Good luck!

What does the sensor look like. Is it like an LED? Might be worth investigating as my constantly gets shunted about as I fiddle...

Graham,

I will certainly check that. It seems to have cured itself but I have been fidling around with the wiries. I'll echo what Keith asks, what does it look like. Also does that mean that any transponder fitted key will work (provided it fits in the lock?

Good question. I've not seen one. Just remember more than one other having similar problem and the sensor was no longer glued into the shroud around the ignition switch.

No - has to have the right code...

Thanks. I'll try and find it. If I come up with anything I'll pass it on.
