I like the bulb type lights on my 4/4 but I would prefer to install sealed beams. Do I simply remove the chrome ring and the bulb light assembly and install a sealed beam light using the clips to hold the light to the rim? I'll keep the bulb type in case a future owner wants to go back to the original type.

Interesting conversion. Sealed beam units have all but died out over here.

Tim,
Are you saying that the bulb type lights are better than sealed beam? I thought that the sealed beam units are better. I will be doing driving at night and want the best light I can find along with ease of replacement. Can't get those bulbs easily unless I carry a spare at all times.

Yes Marcus, that's exactly what I'm saying. Modern H4 bulbs and associated lenses are loads better than sealed beam units. I don't know what the situation is like in the US, but in the UK you can get H$ bulbs in more or less any service station. Sealed beam units, on the other hand, are like rocking-horse poo.

Well, maybe I'll just keep the units that I have and carry a spare bulb. That answers that! Here in the US I think that sealed beams are the only light allowed but no one is ever going to check them on this car especially since there is no annual inspection required for a car that is registered as an antique.

Go for Cibie H180 headlamp units together with Night Breaker H4 bulbs - best light distribution going without modifying to run HIDs...
I still have sealed beams on my land Rover, only because of the possibility of water ingress to a headlamp when off-roading (and I haven't done any of that for years).

Probably worth talking to them (Candlepower) as it seems there is no problem getting a compliant bulb, just that you need to know what you want.
