I have about 10 pairs that are worse then useless and I go through them all every time I need to use a vice grip.
Can anyone recommend a make that just work and last a while rather than cheap and add to the pile that do not work.
I accept these will not be cheap but I have £40 of crap ones and two at £20 each I assume would still be working.

As i thought rather than 10 at £4 each that do not work a few at £20 to £40 each that just work is the solution.
Thanks

eddie Bought some Snap On ones nearly 40 years ago, welded next to them on dozens of ocassions, hammered them, totally abused them, left them out in the rain, lost them for 3 years and then soaked them in a tub of plus gas to free off, done just about every wrong thing you can do to them and still work perfectly well. Even used them as a gear shift lever in a motorbike for a week......priceless. Used to do Graham's King Pins as well just the other weekend......... On that basis cost per year of ownership is pennies, no idea what they cost today though.

I agree in that paying for quality now pays off longer term....or that's my excuse

I have a pair made in the USA in 1942. I'll pop a photograph up, but think they were made by Irwin.
Granddad "borrowed" them from a USAF Fitter billeted near where he lived then Dad took over and now I've got them.
They have been abused by 3 generations of the Jenks family, but still work. Probably be good for another 70 odd years...

Facom; they do a version where the adjuster sets the jaw pressure not the gap, the gap is automatically set when you close them on the work-piece. Less fiddling trying to get them set just right.

On the US sites they say Irwins are now made under licence and are not US made anymore so not as good.
No idea at all if this is the case.
