It was the way Lord March said "replica" that got me! It said a lot about him.

I agree. Something made me uncomfortable, maybe the constant reference to the "super rich"customers. I don't enjoy programmes where the emphasis is slanted towards money and investment rather than the actual cars.

Yes there was a lot of reference of entry to the super rich way of life.

I feel a lot more comfortable with Morgan ownership that seems to dut across most spectrums regardless of how well healed, or not, bank accounts may be of owners.

I thought the new car looked wonderful. I am very envious of those who get to own one (and not because of their wealth) and I hope and expect they will appreciate it.
I wouldn't expect my 2014 Morgan to be admitted to historic races so similarly had not thought about a 2015 Jaguar getting entries.
But I did feel Lord March came over as sneering in his interview, especially for calling the cars replicas.
I wonder if he considers the racing at Goodwood to be a replica of real racing from a bygone age?

I completely agree, what gets me is that I suspect that quite a lot of the historic racers around are probably far from original having been rebuilt several times. As for the 6 E-Types being built by Jaguar being replicas, I think not, they were built by the original manufacturer to the original design specification and were registered by them. Lord March's comment is just historic car snobbery and elitism IMO.

I was entertained by the program, but somewhat saddened that it was, when the fluff had been removed, little more than PR for Jaguar. Good for them, but not very important.

I was also irritated by the way the presenter kept on wittering about the amazing skills and techniques used in the project when people at Malvern use the same techniques day in, day out.

If nothing else watching it made me realise just what a stunningly good deal the the Plus 8 / Aero 8 is.
You can by 10 for the price of one of those E-types.

I was wondering how it worked for the type approval and so on for the 6 cars. Does the fact that the chassis numbers were already on the register mean that they were able to just build them on the basis that they hadn't got around to it (I sympathise with that; I'm terrible at getting around to things). Or would they have been passed through under single vehicle type approval ?

Giles I think I read it was because they hadn't got around to building them but had the chassis registered.

Spot on! My nephew works for a company that restores classics, they did the Bizzzarini that crashed on its first outing at the Revival a few years ago, mostly work on Ferraris. He's said how ridiculous it is that they can "restore" a car and replace every single part as long as the VIN plate is original. If they were to build the same from scratch using parts from the factory it would be a "recreation" and worth a fraction of the price. It's all down to provenance.
