S3 was same as S2 4.4L

Yep the s3/4 test mule had the 4.8.
There are/were Hartge engine upgrades to take the s1 to over 450bhp. Rumour has it a few LHD cars had these modifications. Must be terrifying....

People will always push for horses - I find it curious!

I had a Ford GT for many years, my American chums pushed this engine to over 1,000 bhp. Why on earth would you do that?? It was rapid when it left the factory - same as the S1.

Just to "close out" this thread, it was indeed the MAF at fault but it was also coked up a bit with dead bugs! The air filter was changed and all other connections checked and tightened. I must say the difference in performance is amazing -just like the day I bought it.So that's a 10 out of 10 for most of the people here!
