I would check the belt tension and maybe the bevel gearbox oil, with that mileage and age you may have "the gunge" in the BB rather than oil.
As for the so-called "gunge" this will not contribute to the very disimilar "chirping sound" from the belt/sprocket interface. However, when you have to go the dealer or mechanic to swap out the sprocket and tweak the rear end it is a most perfect time to change gear oil. Mine was done after about 3,500 miles when my first sprocket bit it. My dealer did it without asking. When I go in again, it will be done again at the 16,000 mile mark. I will ask for this. It still whines. It is directly attached to the frame. That is all. This is a most vocal car!
What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

Wd40 every 100 miles on the belt is my solution.

Steel rear sprocket is my solution, we shall see how long it lasts as only a couple of hundred use yet. Belt dressings are only a short term cure. Agree about the BB not being a source of the noise, I was just thinking of possible things that make a noise at the back of the car.

Wd40 every 100 miles on the belt is my solution. Hate this idea as it is adding a light weight oil to the belt which does not need it. Oil just holds dust and grit that will stick to it and further add to the eating of the sprocket. I tried WD40 and silicone sprays, all to no avail. They sound fabulous for about fifteen minutes then the racket starts again. They are purely cosmetic in that it just disguises, for the moment, a very real problem.

There is a steel sprocket. It still amazes me that MMC keep things so close to their chests - unless maybe they're just too disorganised to know what's going on in the shed next door... I had a belt and sprocket replaced under warranty last month (and what seems to have been a 'real' warranty fix, ie: one I didn't need to pay for, unlike the Centa, but that's another story of course....) and I specifically asked if my very helpful dealer could ask MMC about the Steel Sprocket rumours I'd seen on here. "No", said MMC to their enquiries, "there is no such thing". So I had another self-destructing version fitted, which may or may not last more than the 5,500 miles of the original. All very frustrating, I must say. I'd so love to be able to have a "TM Members and MMC owners meeting" one day, just to talk over all these things and to get their side of the story. There must be more to things than we get to see on this side of the owners/factory fence!

I am utterly bemused by the bare faced lies that Morgan or some of their dealers seem to indulge in. There are steel sprockets out there. Im not one of the recipients and am running on a high quality alloy one that I sourced myself. Its worn but quiet at around 4000 mls. Im still waiting for news regards the split bodywork at the rear exuast mounting point. Guess my dealer is not flavour of the month with Morgan at the moment. I have had great service from both my local dealer( who i did not purchase the car through) and Morgan( when they are in the mood). I just want some consistency from them. Morgan seem to be following the traditional British Leyland approach to thier customers.

I should emphasise that this is not a criticism of my local dealer. I think they are just as fed up with Morgan as i am but just have to stick with it.

how bad does the sprocket have to be to get a new one fitted under warranty? Mine is showing a fair degree of wear at 1200 miles and the belt is quite vocal. It wasn't mentioned at its first service @ 950 miles but i have had a close look since and its showing signs of scoring on the teeth.
