Hello all.....
Had first service on new 3.7 roadster this week, on checking the oil i found it 20 to 25mm over the full mark, do you think this a significant amount that warrents reducing the level, is there an easy way of reducing the level and what does happen to an engine when overfilled.

You can get over pressure in the engine which could blow oil into parts it shouldn't reach as the amount of "squashable air" vs non compressible oil is too high.

But I am not sure what 25 mm extra means versus the total fill. I guess you could either:-
1. drain it all off into a clean container & reuse
2. siphon off a bit

It may be ok or may not depending on what 25mm represents. Could be a litre or more so not good to leave. If it were mine for peace of mind I'd drain a bit off via the drain plug. If a dealer has done the overfill I'd also give them a piece of my mind!

Take it back to the person who changed the oil. Overfilling can cause a number of problems so get them to correct it quickly.

It can contaminate the Cat and froth the oil . On the odd occasion I've overfilled, I drop a bit out via the sump plug but it's messy.

You could use a pella extraction pump through the dipstick tube.

Mark the pipe to the length that matches the high mark on the dipstick insert to that level and suck out.

Is the oil level meant to be read when cold or warm on the 3.7?

I measured oil when cold so it would be at its loweest.
i shaĺl try to remove excess with a pump as i suppli3d my own expensive oil and dont fancy trying to judge it by sump plug removal, never used or actually seen a pump for oil removal i hope i can get one off the shelf.

Guys, dropping the oil via the drain plug is very messy, why not pop off the oil filter? With care it should unscrew, empty and refit and the seal should be fine, if not an oil filter costs a lot less than a sump full of oil.
