It's all relative - probably everyone on this forum are part of the worlds 2% wealthiest people and most will be in the 1% worlds wealthiest bracket.

The BBC ran the above as a series earlier this year and I was shocked by the results.

Very True, Clipper -- a timely reminder to value our blessings and to share what we have with those who are not so blessed!

Likewise...it made me realise just how fortunate I am and that I should, perhaps, pay more attention to the other 99%.

But perspective is everything:

1% of the world's population is still 73 million people. So the UK and Ireland together.

To be "super rich" the Guardian newspaper claims you need to have assetts exceeding $3.5m and there are at least 12 million such people. I'm not one of them, and never will be.

So I know my place...it is OK.

I wonder would we be having this conversation if it was a Ferrari or Bugatti,although i personally think its way over the top price wise everything is reletive to what you have in the piggy bank.Good on John Edwards and Jaguar for commisioning a real classic.I have an Argos watch and a rather nice mk1 Aero in the garage and very happy with my lot ,now if my piggy bank was larger .........

Well that's an interesting point

how long will it be before Bugatti and Ferrari start to think about setting up workshops to make recreations of their older desirable models

As prices for the originals go through the roof - they must be considering it as they could make substantial profits and generate publicity

A special operation division has been set up by Jaguar and they rescently purchased that huge collection reputedly worth 100 million to preserve it for the nation.I have no doubt this is just the start for jaguar heritage.

I think it's a splendid idea, there's obviously a market for recreations of exotic classics, the originals of which are unaffordable to mere mortals, and who better to do it than the original manufacturer? There are a lot of people out there who might not have millions to spend on cars but nevertheless can afford something special.

C-Types, D-types, XKSS are the obvious candidates, but even more mundane stuff could be worth producing. If Jaguar produced a modernised version of a Mark 2, like Beacham do in NZ, I reckon they'd sell well.
