Here are photos of my rear tyre. Its probably run 60 miles!

Its a Yokohama A Drive 175/55/R15 77T, which apparently has a speed rating of 118mph - which I certainly didn't get up to. The tyre pressure was 25psi

Does it look to have overheated to you tyre gurus out there?
Should it have been pumped up harder?





By comparison, this is my Yokohame BluEarth, which has done around 300 miles, including 8 runs up Loton Park hillclimb

This is the state of my Avons at 5000 miles. They hung on well at Cadwell Park

I run them at 30psi

The fronts are fine. The rubber 'snail trails' on the tread block tops are the surface rubber scuffing up & balling as a result of the cornering forces. It's similar to pushing an old sticking plaster off your skin, and nothing that a few road miles won't wear down.

Your A Drive rear tyre shows signs of being well scrubbed, but it's not showing signs of being overly hot in the photo's. Overheated tyres display signs of 'blueing' at the tread edges, which yours don't.

Was it over or under inflated? Difficult to say on visual alone, as there seems to be adequate wear across the tread area.

I think it was hot at the time it came to rest as the grass debris is 'stuck' to the tread ribber. If you've skidded across tarmac before coming to rest, that would answer that though.

Perfect answer Stringers, when mine look like that I clean them up with an old "Surfoam".

You old boys out there will know what I mean.

Thanks Steve. All the tyres were at the correct pressure when I checked them just before taking the photos last night (30psi Front, 25 psi Rear). I should have said in my post.
The pressures are what I've found work well on the road, hillclimbs and even a trackday at Oulton Park, but they were worked far harder at Cadwell Park than ever before as it felt as if I was sliding around most corners - the sensation was absolutely fantastic!

I didn't have any tyre concerns in the practice session, as partially captured on nippymogs video, but during the race the ante went up a serious few notches. I couldn't believe how competitive these 3 wheeler racers are. I have an awful lot to learn.....

I've Googled Surfoam, and I think I have one lurking in a drawer in the garage. Thanks Dab, will give it a go

Hi WarBird, hope you find one they work a treat, all the hill climbers and sprinters use them to clean up their slicks, works on road tyres too.

Also good for haemorrhoids, but wipe with Dettol afterwards..

Warbird could it be that your rear tyre was too new. Road tyres need "running in', say under 50 mph for 50 miles. I believe this releases something in the tyre compound which aides longevity.
There are likely plenty of unused spares which will be useless when the time comes.
