Lists such as this one in Times On Line always provoke discussion amongst fans of F1, but for once I agree with the best post-war driver; who is also my personal favourite of all-time. cheers flag

Not far off, anyone can adjust the list but seems about right, Jim Clark the best of the best, as a small boy that was what everyone said at the time.

The absolutely correct result.
Jim Clark was apparently in a league of his own.

I agree for the most of them but I would have put Niki Lauda in the head group of ten. This guy was a great driver, courageous.

Furthermore, you can't realy score drivers who are still young in the bizness.

Putting Hamilton or Alonso in the same league as Sir Moss or JM Fangio... It makes me smile.

Cīmon, what about Schumi?
He is not only the best (or most efficient) driver, he also was able to re-align completely disastrous teams. Remember when his Ferrari lost a half-shaft in the pitlane? He really is one of the greatest ever.

I have a question, one which was asked of me recently relative to a simular drivers list printed here in the states. If a driver has simular stats, # of races won, started... and one of these drivers retired and was leading an active life in middle age, and the other passed while racing, wouldnt the driver who lived and retired be the better driver. My friend who asked this question talked of driver error in some accidents we discussed, and reminded me of simular stats... Jackie Stewart's and Jim Clarke's stats are close yet still twenty plus more starts for Jackie...Curious if anyone else follows my friends logic as we debate it from time to time.
