I recently found the following items on the internet and am now considering fitting them to the M3W

http://www.kitspares.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=709

As you can see they are a pair of headlights with a row of LED's around the lower half of the circumference to provide Daylight Running Lamps.

You will note that they are currently out of stock but I have spoken to them this morning and some more are expected in within the next 2 to 3 weeks.

As a result of riding motorcycles for years and the fact that the average motorist just does not see you, I usually run with dipped headlights during the daytime.
I thinks these would be a better alternative as they would draw very little current from the battery and place a much smaller load on the electrical system, which if you have are stuck in traffic (or running extra things like cooling fans or heated seats), can run the battery down very quickly.

Assuming they fit our rims, what do my fellow M3W owners think?

These look pretty similar and may be worth investigating at lower cost.

The way I read KBMOG's lamps the price is for a pair , where as yours is for a single so actually more expensive ?

I think the idea is very good , but how do you wire the led part up ? do you just connect the led wires to the existing side light feed , or do something special to protect the leds from overcurrent etc ? electronics is not my speciality, but I believe you have to protect leds from too high a current or they easily go pop !

The LED's would be wired up to the sidelight feed and would in fact take the place of the existing sidelights.

The LED's would only pull the current they require which would be minimal. It is over voltage that will kill LED's and these would be suitable for normal 12 volt electrical systems as per the M3W.

According to the web page (blue wording below pictures) the price is for a pair, so they are significantly cheaper

hi KBMOG
i have bought a pair of DRL lights from powerfuluk.
Took the plunge and ordered and hoped they would fit easily.
Well, they have arrived and i have installed them. Very simple in deed, just 10 minutes a side, even for a muckanic like me
They do look quite modern! The DRL leds are much more "noticeable" than the normal sidelights which is what i wanted from them ( lucky that !!!)

The DRL lead has a connector attached which just plugs into the side light bulb holder ! Swapped over the H4 lamps from current lights. I am hoping that there will be an improvement in main/dip performance with the better reflector design in the new units.
Been wet recently so havent been out in the dark yet to found out how it all works.

photos were taken with cell phone so twas difficult to show the illuminated leds. Sort of worked. First pic just after installed. Second pic tries to show Leds on.

You can get an idea of the finished look from this racing ARV-6 as it hunted down Henry Williams at Rockingham recently..

the ones i bought are from the link above for the land rover defender etc. Look the same as the ones in the last post

the pics in the ebay link shows the units much better than my attempts.

had no trouble ordering direct from them and had them shipped to NZ within a couple of weeks.
