I have just replaced the gearbox extension bushes on my 1992 plus four. This involved removing seats transmission tunnel and gearbox cover.

Having reassembled it, when I put the key in the ignition and turn it nothing happens. No sign of any instruments working, no starter relay click. The only sign of electrical life is that the clock is going. confused2

The engine started before I started reassembling.

Does anyone have any idea what I might have done?

Thanks

Cut out switch? Have you caught the red key? You can bridge it with one side of a pair of jump Leads to test, as the clock is running looks like the low current bypass is working but the switch could be off......especially as you have had the seats out!

Thanks spanner juggler that's exactly what it was. I had to remove the key to lift the carpet when I was fitting the transmission tunnel. That must have been it's last turn because the switch seems to be completely shot.

Temporarily bypassed and all working again

Thanks again

Glad to help and that it was a simple fix, I am sure you know this but you can put both leads on the same side of the cut out to get you on the road if you like, just means you have no cut out until you replace it. Safe miles.

On my 97 +4 that key was very sensitive. I did consider replacing it, Good options are on e bay as Mr Mog bought a basic cheap one. See GoMog

Were those cutoff keys standard on earlier Plus 4s then?

So did my 94 +4, probably all did until MMC started fitting cars with adaptive ECU systems?
