Went to a do last weekend and found out that a friend of ours had bought a red fixed head coupe 1968 s1 a few months back , didn't ask him how much but it must have been into the 50k mark as the ones on pistonheads are past that figure !
Geneva 2016 plus 8' The Green Godess' 4 side exits .

I think I've given up on my dream of owning an E type. Every time I've got close to affording one which might be more pleasure than pain, the prices have taken off again like a scalded cat. For the classicists amongst you, it's rather along the lines of poor old Tantalus.
My ideal E type would be a Mk1 4.2 coupé, but I could live with a series 2 coupé. Before any of you suggest that maybe I could run to a decent 2+2, I'm sorry, but the looks are such an important part of attraction of the E type, and I'm afraid that the 2+2 just doesn't do it for me.
The good news is that I love my Morgan so much that I don't even really care about it any more.

As much as I would love an E-Type in my garage I would be a lot more bothered about where I went with it and left it. The money isn't there for me to worry too long about this though! I love my Morgan too.

E-Types were appreciating even in the 1970's. I bought a 1970 white series 2 drophead 4.2 in 1974 for, if I remember rightly, £1,800. Even though only a few years old I had to get the sills replaced. A switch to Koni shocks was a great improvement but the brakes were rubbish -- especially in the wet. Went to Zurich in it in an epic drive and the west coast of Ireland twice. Sold it in 1978 for, I think, £5k.

A friend in the trade had two E Types in 1978. Both were ten years old and completely rotten.I could have swopped my Midget for either - value 1500 pounds.

I had an early S1 back in 1967/68, cost me £375, it had been painted purple, and I could see the road going past under my legs, it was so rotten. Oh, yes the othere thing was that when sitting with a foot on the brake pedal it would sink fairly rapidly to the floor - a bit like my 2014 4 seater Plus 4 before Newtown fitted a new master cylinder and vacum unit under warranty! I ended up doing a swap plus a bit of cash for a beautiful 970 Cooper S, which I then had a lot of fun with for the next 6 months before selling it on. That was a mistake, wasn't it?
I'm always amazed how little room there is inside E types, certainly on early convertables.

Rust! When you think that E Type could have been no more than 7 years old.  I had a Mini of similar vintage in 1967/68 and that more rust than metal. Thank goodness modern cars are better protected.
