Feeling rather pleased with myself tonight. I had the option of paint protection film applied to my car by the factory when it was built, and generally its been a very good investment. However, the areas on the running boards are very easily bruised by shoes as people (me included) get in and out. The resulting scuff marks had become very noticeable. I've tried all sorts of cutting pastes, plastic polishes etc with disappointing results. I was considering removing the film but thought I'd have one more go using a cotton polishing mop on my electric drill, like the one in the picture, as a sort of last resort. I realise taking a drill to the paintwork of their pride and joy won't be for everyone, but the results were dramatic. Even deep scratches came out from the plastic film relatively easily. There seems to be an optimum pressure, too much and you make the problem worse, too little and nothing happens. I didn't use any polish with the mop just a modest pressure and gentle to-and-fro motion until the marks come out (including the new marks I created when experimenting with too much pressure).

Thought I'd share on here in case anyone else has had the same issue and is feeling brave enough to try my method. Just be really careful with that drill !

Did you use it edge on, or flat down? Where can you get these things? I was just looking today at some bad marks on mine and thinking I may have to get it replaced.

Try Tcut as a first try, worked wonders on mine before I spun it, or marine grade compound.

Slow speed of rotation. Light pressure. Edge on.
You could try foam polishing pads with fine polish too, as for polishing the paint.
If you have a dual action polishing machine it will be safer.
Machine Mart and others sell sell the polishing stuff.

Remember......polishing is actually removal of the surface layer so be gentle!

Edge on, think I got mine from Machine Mart years ago but I would imagine Screwfix would also do them. Mine came in a kit with a variety of wheels, a mandril to mount them on and a couple of bars of polishing compound. I originally bought them for polishing the aluminium cam covers on my e-type...

My drill says 2200 rpm.

I have the exact same issue, I think mainly shoe scuffs, bit scared of the drill though....will try the T Cut option first.

You can only do it once maybe twice depending on how many layers of paint the car has as it removes a layer of paint each time .

It is not the paint. This is to polish the clear defendal film

Unless JTL has gone through the film and into the paint ?
