My 2013 filler cap has a cone shaped rubber gasket. I drilled the cap, made a cone shaped metal washer and secured with a bolt and lock nut. About a eighth of an inch of gasket shows around the outer edge for sealing. I'm not sure it was needed better safe than sorry.

I hope someone from Morgan are reading this and find a solution to this, in the meantime a drop of oil smeared on the rubber to help tightening and not deform the seal ,like you would do on oil fitter rubber maybe

Rolsmith - good idea. However my new seal from morgan wasn't cone shaped but flat - it went cone shaped once it had soaked up some oil! Sure you idea will work. I have used a large metal washer that leaves just a small ring of rubber showing that seals the edge/lip only.

I have just made up this arrangement: http://tinypic.com/r/n55tm1/8http://tinypic.com/r/2i293cp/8I need to keep an eye on the condition of the O ring since it just came from my 'come in handy' box. But it can't go anywhere - the plug is a close fit in the filler tube.

This was my "gasket". The dealer replaced it with a cap that was drilled through the middle and a similar rubber gasket was bolted onto the underside of the cap. I can get a picture of that later possibly. Thanks to this forum I knew what to look for and possibly saved myself a big problem.  image by mattwsutton, on Flickr

PTFE tape is not something I would use anywhere near an oil system. Great for water, but in oil you will run a risk of small bits of ptfe finding their way into the engine.
To seal the lid, you need something that is soft and will deform to the lip of the tank to prevent leaks, and will not degrade or break up under constant contact with hot oil.
Cork gasket meets both these criteria and has been used in such applications for over a century. Why try to reinvent a wheel? Agree Tim, in similar situations I've seen a leather washer used for years, never deforms. Sometimes we can over complicate things.
