Interesting topic. I think the private second hand car market is struggling primarily due to the very attractive dealer finance deals. One of our daughters ordered a new car, three days later she had the keys after paying £200 per month. No deposit required.
So in my opinion, MMC and it's dealers need to offer a really attractive finance package to it's customers.
I'm not sure this is a driver for the Morgan segment of the market. Whilst it's still a car it's not a commodity purchase.

If the market is weak, maybe it's a leftover from the recession. That said I have been idly watching the prices of 430s and the have definitely gone up by 25% in 12 momths

What I cannot understand is that ALL classic's are rising (very fast) however 25 year old+ Morgans seem to be missing the bubble?
Honesty means doing it right, even when no one is looking!

I'm not sure this is a driver for the Morgan segment of the market. Whilst it's still a car it's not a commodity purchase. I think it is. Potential customers may have a morgan in the £25 to £33k range but desire new models in the £55 to £80k range. The difference needs to be made up either by cash if you have it or via a finance package if you don't.

It is an interesting subject, as has been said already would a young gun buy a 4/4 or +4 over a Boxter, I doubt it, the appeal of a Morgan varies by person to person. It's a personal thing and for me the attraction is the way it makes me feel when it all comes together and everything is right in the world. Preferably a sunny Sunday morning, bendy B roads, no pot holes, no speed bumps, no adverse camber....it produces the biggest smile.. but...I don't get the tinkerers, everyone has their own reason as I have said, it's personal but in 2015 to buy a car that you need to grease every 1000 miles or less is quite frankly madness, the tinkerers love it, I read about people moving the fog light switch from one side of the dash to another, seriously , really, I am convinced some never actually drive the thing but tinker endlessly, but that's their choice and that is their attraction to a Morgan. For me I didn't purchase as an investment BUT the fact that she holds her value is certainly a big justification to keeping it and a justification not to sell and buy a rainproof, well made, lovely looking, no need to grease, service every 20k miles or so Boxter....I am not looking to make money from the Mog but I can't afford to throw the 'investment' away so should residual prices start to tumble I'd be off......

The market for the older Plus8 stalled when the Australian market dried up.Was it due to legislation.When I was looking 3 years ago every one I went to look at was going off to Holland or Australia!
I have been looking for Plus 8 but long door model they hold their price still around the 32 k mark.
My son in law who has an all singing and dancing AMG A 45 ( it is on the front cover of Top Gear Magazine ) drove my 4/4 to Prescott Hill Climb after two runs up the hill.He is a total convert and as soon as his son get a little older is in the market for one.
You cannot put a price on the smiles.
A lot of our type of cars have not increased much.

Just remember how much a new car drops even the new BMW I8 has drop 15 k in a year !

The older Trad Morgans have been out of step with the general classic scene for years, being 'over priced'. All that's happening at the moment is that more baseline classic are closing that gap. But the classic bubble has burst before and get caught with the wrong car and you'll be stuffed. Modern Trad Morgans are very expensive compared to mainstream sports cars but have excellent residuals, but won't appreciate for years, if ever. The Aeros appeal to a different buyer, they are in very expensive company when new - and there are very few around. They do drop around £20k by the look of it, but a Trad can drop £10 from new from half the new value so no real difference. I wouldn't consider a modern sports equivalent, simply because on the odd occasion I need a modern car I need at least four seats, and my Golf fulfils this role very well. Morgans are not investments but I take the view that while savings are stagnant, we might as well convert some money into a fun car and enjoy the experience.

Mogs do seem to hold their value. I am amazed sometimes at how much ordinary SH ones can cost/ asking prices.
Like many currently buying my savings are not earning any money in a reasonably safe place - so I might as well drive them!

My son who drives a top of the range BMW sport loves getting into my GDI +4 and his mates seem well impressed when he passes round the photo's ! I bought it to re create my interest in driving not as an investment item !
