That sums the whole thing up as far as I am concerned, nicely put Stan.
I think that Morgan suffer from a lack of competition, they are in a niche market all by themselves, partly because of their reticence and lack of capital to expand over the years, which is standing them in good stead now, as a business. In the real world, they would not exist any longer, but here, in never never land they have things all their own way.

A good post. I run a small team providing monitoring instrumentation and systems to around 400 people in a large government quango. Although state owned we run the team in a business like fashion and undertake a considerable amount of comercial work also. In my experience about 85% of the workforce in any organisation private or state run are not the slightest bit interesed in their e customers or the job. The remaining 15% work bloody hard to keep the wheels turning and the customers happy. I am sure the helpful ones at Morgan and I have spoken to some of them will also recognise the same problem.
What is wrong at Morgan is that they have the same problem as everyone else

I totally agree with all of the above, I run a small heating company and rely totally on recommendation, we don't advertise at all and never have.
We give a quality service at a fair price, all our work comes from repeat business and recommendation and has done for over 23 years.
If I can do it why can't MMC it just needs to listen to its customers and react promptly.
We all know things can go wrong now and again but if its sorted out promptly and to the customers satisfaction then no problem.
Come on MMC we all know it can be done, there just needs to be the will to make it happen and deliver.

Phew, I haven't been panned so far.
Just as Dab says, I agree with the above, with one exception. When Matty says Morgan have the same problem as everyone else I would like to suggest otherwise.
Many years ago now I was in the market for a toy. Caterham was at the top of my list having run one years earlier. Not themselves without issues, but in my experience, better than Morgan. I looked at an upstart called Ariel, I met Simon Saunders and fell head over heels with the then fledgling Atom.....and then played safe and bought a Seven. I didn't regret my decision for one moment but watched with interest as Ariel developed and grew. Subsequently a friend and then an acquaintance have bought into the Atom experience and they are hooked.
The point I make is that a complete clean sheet upstart can make it. The engineering, the development, the detail and the passion is to be admired and applauded. I have actual owners to testify, this is not a fairy story. Perfect ? of course not, but in a different league. I now await a post from someone else decrying this, I can only report as I believe to be true.
Matty, I know exactly what you meant, and agree, but you allowed me the opportunity to make a point I'd been considering submitting as a separate post.
Maybe Simon Saunders has been lucky in the people he has around him, but having met him I would say he is a shrewd judge of the true passion of those he employs, and those just happy to clock off at five and collect a paycheque.
It can be done.

OK, we have identified the issues, in themselves pretty obvious, but more importantly is what can be done, and who does it.
I know that Steve Morris is aware of all this, and he himself goes out of his way to do his best, but is let down by some of his staff, either because they don't have the physical time or they don't really care.
Maybe Steve needs to know from our point of view just who is good and who isn't. I note that in Philips posts about getting his Three Wheeler out to NZ he has left out some relevant names, should names actually be left in, and if the same ones keep cropping up, then management will know where to make a start?

Your right, stantheman. I watched something on tv the other night and they showed the arial outfit. It was impressive. You could have eaten your dinner off the floor. It can be done right but you have to pay for the right people!!! Most British businesses wont pay for good hands on people but there are going to be some exeptions of course. I happily stand corrected however.

I prefer bouquets to brickbats. Mark Ceronne has been incredibly helpful to me and I'd love to buy him a beer one day. He should be running courses on customer relations.

With regard to Ariel, and in defence of Morgan, they are a much smaller outfit, employing less than a dozen guys [and girls to, no doubt], started from scratch and have all their fabrication done by outside suppliers, so only run an assembly and set up operation at the factory. They are also family run, with the 2nd generations of Saunders actively involved, so the correct ethos can be passed down, and more important, is that being new, they are hungry for business in their niche. Morgan have lost that hunger, in my opinion.

I wholeheartedly agree that Mark Cerrone is a great asset to the company and he has been a tremendous help to me in overcoming the teething troubles I have had with my car.
