I have had my beautiful +4 for 5 years and all the gauges have worked wonderfully.... bouncing about.
Now recently I had my most excellent Morgan mechanic install a cigar lighter about 4 weeks ago. I had the car three weeks and now the Fuel and Temperature gauges just drop totally south and don't work anymore. I hope it is something as simple as not being grounded properly but after the car sits for a while the fuel gauge works, but when the car drives a little bit, it stops working...not enough driving to affect he temperature gauge.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the problem... does it sound like a voltage regulator, or a voltage stabilizer?

Start by looking at where he spliced the cigar lighter into the 12v feed. It does sound as if the voltage stabiliser is getting an intermittent feed and the splice might be the problem.

It might be a cigarette lighter. Anyway, it is for the phone charger and Garmin. The wires go to the silver can connecting to the ignition and a ground bolt. It has a fuse in the wire. So the cigar lighter doesn't connect to the gauge wiring. Strange.

If you've got one of those small silver Lucas voltage regulators it's worth replacing it with a solid state unit anyway.

Have you tried to remove the fuse in order to disconnect the cigarette lighter and test?

I'll look at it today to test the wiring.

I did disconnect the wire to the new cigarette lighter. The problem was still there. I drove about 18 miles and it didn't work most of the time, and did work on occasion. I did notice, that when it did work and I pushed on the brake, the gas meter would lower and return up when I released the brake.
Now my turn indicators are not working. It looks like I have been hit by the Prince of Darkness...Lucas...

Where can you get a solid state voltage regulator? I don't know what to look for at Moss Motors or Morgan-Spares. All the Radio Shacks have closed.

eBay is your friend. I'm pretty sure that the one I used was very similar to this although it's probably ten years since I did it, which shows how successful it was I suppose.
