Vitruvius. I have had a similar intermittent and then permanent problem with a newish Smiths 3 in 1 guage. I began at the fuel tank, removing the sender to check its function; then I connected a spare single fuel guage to the sender and live feed to eliminate the sender; then that fuel guage to the wiring at the dash and all worked as it should so I assumed that the problem lay with the new 3:1 guage. Eventually I tightened all the small brass connectors on the back of the guage and the fuel level indicator sprang into life. I have my fingers crossed. It's worth checking you guage connections even if as mine, they appear tight already.

Did I mention that while the gauges weren’t working was that the turn indicator stopped working. Last weekend I changed out the voltage stabilizer that the fuel gauge and temperature gauge plug into and now they work just fine. I am very happy. I found Moss Motors had a solid state version for a TR4A, that looks like the original, and ordered and installed it. I tightened the mounting bolts and all seems well. The turn indicator works well… but differently from before. The turn indicator flashes more rapidly than before. Anyone know whether that is more correct?

Meabh, Yes, I tightened a few of the nuts and I think that may have helped with any grounding issue. They certainly were tight before.
