Makes sense to me, Steve. My local centre (Spotmog) appears to be full of lovely people who very happily get on and organise lunches, golf trips and visits, none of which interest me but which they all seem to be very happy with.

Rather than rock their boat and upset them, it seems to be a much more sensible idea all round to just pursue a different agenda independently. We already have TalkMorgan as the unifying umbrella/parent 'organisation', and the Much Marcle meets provide for me everything that I would want from a noggin.

All we need now is a TalkMorgan bar badge!

They aren't actually using it, mscc.org just redirects to mscch.org so they're wasting it really

I too have thought about TM "Centres" a good idea I think.

BUT wearing my sensible hat today I would not want to Rock the MSCC boat ...well not too much, with what could be seen as an imposter group.

Am I being too PC here?? Not my usual stance ..but then again I am in a funny mood today!!!

4/4.. the alternative to potentially rocking the boat is living (and putting up) with the current state. Lets not forget the club is primarily there to serve its members both real and potential and to cater to their needs, no? They need to wake up and adapt or suffer the consequences like any other organisation seeking fee paying 'customers'
so my view.. yes your being too PC!

None of this is new, and you could write a thesis on Car Club dynamics. In fact it's all recognisable from my very first club event, which was an MGCC event in 1971, where there were lots of old people and nobody spoke to me, as a spotty 20 year old with a daily driver Midget. Those with MGA Twin Cams were very snooty.

Local areas form cliques, and there will always be a pecking order, and inevitably the group will do things you don't want to do. We lived that life for 22 years with MG, and have no wish to do that again with Morgan. We've attended our local Morgan meeting a couple of times in eight years but have no desire to make it a regular feature. To be honest we much prefer touring on our own.............
And surprisingly MrsW loves ToTH, although we don't stay all day.

MSCC local areas are usually victims of what Paul mentioned above. The local secretary can't find a replacement so soldiers on, and the recipe gets staler year on year. The thing I found when I ran the MG club is that you as organiser are ALWAYS expected to turn up, even though the rest turn up if they feel like it.

The MSCC national committee only has time limits for the chairman, vice chairman and past chairman. So the other officers can go on and on, but in part that's due to a lack of willing replacements. I started in 2009, and have more or less decided that MOG16 will be my last MOG in the role of Concours Sec.
If MOG17 does end up in the New Forest, then this gives me a good reason to stop, so that MrsW & I can enjoy a relaxing weekend in the New Forest without having to worry about deadlines etc, because my role means that we either have to set off really early, and for that trip, probably 4am, or we stay over, but then it means a rushed breakfast which doesn't go down well with MrsW.

The great benefit of TM is that we can organise ad-hoc and one off events. They don't happen often but when they do they are without exception superb days out.
Worthy of mention are the following:
Factory tours arranged solely for TM members - there have been a few.
The Factory tour when we went to Superform. There were some TM big hitters on that one - Simon & Boshly to name but two!
The TM trip to Lotus Cars at Hethel - I arranged that one, and what a great day out that was! (I'm not just saying that!).

The NEC is arguably the best cooperative event which the MSCC puts on, and I've met a lot of TM people there over the years.

Setting up a break away club doesn't work out well based on what's happened with other car clubs (and political parties).
It just becomes another club with the same issues.

I don't see it as rocking the MSCC boat at all - if anything, quite the reverse. The message from Peter is clear - if you want to try to change the club, it has to be done by getting involved at centre level and changing them first.

But actually, as many of us have observed, the majority of the membership appear to be quite happy with the status quo. So why should we upset them and make them feel uncomfortable by trying to change something they are happy with?

Better that we go and do our own thing and respectfully leave the MSCC to do what it thinks is best for its members. Surely the MSCC wouldn't try to propose that they should be the only club serving the interests of Morgan enthusiasts?
