It seems,from Adrian's experience, that there is an excellentafter market solution (Omex?).
I suspect that the factory simply cannot afford the cost of supplying this revised ECU to all the existing 3.7 owners.
BUT I do think that if the 3.7 Roadster is to continue then all new 3.7s should be offered with the upgrade as a "no cost" Aero Racing after market option.
I also suspect that the reason they cannot simply supply new cars with the after market ECU is that this would void the Euro 6 homologation, so all new cars must be fitted with the OEM ECU and then "corrected" as an after market modification.
Can anyone confirm this?

That's really shocking, bad enough that MMC and Aero Racing didn't reply to e-mails but to loose £25K really is appalling. It would certainly make me think more than twice about buying another new car from Morgan if I had had that experience.

I had this rattle on mine - and I know of at least 3 other 3.7 owners who had the same at around 3k rpm... I emailed the factory several times (no reply) and the engine importer said 'no comment'. I also took it to Revolve Engineering who prepared the ECU and had them turn off the variable valve system via software - it still made the noise - so I turned it back on. A company who prepares these engines for racing in Nobles said part of their preparation involved dispensing with the variable valve timing completely.....
I wrote to Aero Racing twice (who take the timing chain out I believe and replace it with another), but never had the courtesy of a reply.
I don't think it's ECU related - but I could be wrong. I think it's the plastic guides on the timing chain hitting the sides of the front of the engine block. Something you wouldn't hear in a Mustang due to sound deadening. Again, I could be wrong, it's really hard to diagnose, particularly with zero support or interest from the factory.
I bought a Plus 8 in the end as I couldn't live with it. I lost £25k on the Roadster which was virtually brand new. Neil, I appreciate that you investigated the rattle issue to some extent, but did you not take the car back to the dealer and ask them to get it resolved under the warranty, I presume it was still under the 2 years warranty at the time and this would have covered any engine issues?

Are there some differences in the build between ones that do and don't?
Are the crated engines all the same version?
Are the ECU's all the same version hardware and software when they leave the factory?

OK I have done some investigation, and I have found this via a USA Ford Mustang thread, 3.5/3.7L—COLD ENGINE STARTUP TICKING NOISE— BUILT ON OR BEFORE 5/1/2011 TSB 12-1-17 The TSB(Technical Service Bulletin) is a Ford raised issue, I have a copy of the rectification article from Ford. It is an issue with the cam follower buckets and oil feed to the cam bearings. I believe most 3.7 Roadsters were built early 2013 onwards, but the engines supplied by Ford I presume would/could have been built earlier. the only way to know is to supply the engine VIN number and ask Ford when it was built. This issue may be the rattling you are referring to. I also know that the fly by wire throttle pedal went through 3 iterations by Ford, presumably to resolve some issue(s). This came to light when testing the new MBEMECU. My car has the 2nd iteration, and I believe Ford confirmed that no 3.7 Cyclones supplied to MMC had iteration one, I do not know how many were built with iteration 2. This as I have explained previously I was told can cause the limp home mode, due to throttle voltage variance on the ECU.

Glad I have the 3 l version +1 ... even if I have had issues with my 3 L. However these have been of a curable kind

Yes I had many conversations with the dealer - and other dealers too. Unfortunately it wasn't resolved... gently dropped as a topic I'd suggest. It's worth adding that because this is a relatively new model, the engines are a little unknown to the dealers. Bit of a sealed unit in some respects. Is an engine rattle a warranty claim? Is it a 'feature' of the engine? It's hard to get traction to be honest.
