In fairness Bud, I think that the new Plus 8 is a model that has come of age. I spoke to a new owner of a Plus 8 yesterday in Brighton and he had been a Porsche owner before and took the opportunity of the current market and sold his Porker and bought a new Plus 8 - his first Morgan. thumbs

He is delighted with it and shares Peter's youthful enthusiasm (!) for the marque and the model and is giving all his Porsche owning friends rides in it. It really is a stunning car and shares the modern comfort and road holding of the Aero chassis, with the looks and appeal of the trad-bodied cars. woohoo

You are welcome to drive mine when we meet up Bud, but in the meantime please don't mix-up enthusiasm for arrogance as we should all enjoy our Morgan's whatever they are! After all my other Morgan - SP1 is also a poverty model as it has no louvres at all.........go figure as our NA friends say...

I talked to a chap with a new plus 8 while waiting to board a ferry at Dieppe earlier this summer. He had previously owned a plus 4, loves the new car & said that the main thing he missed about his plus 4 was that, unlike his new plus 8, the plus 4 wasn't always trying to kill him.

I've talked to at least 20 MOG owners who, looking at my car, said that they would buy a new Plus 8 if they could afford it.

The big difference between the Roadster and the Plus 8 is that in the Roadster I thought I was travelling at a higher speed than I actually was, but in the Plus 8 I'm travelling at a higher speed than I think I am....

Why? So they can have bragging rights about owning a car that has more power than they can legally use?

I love the V8 sound and think it is a shame that a small, modern, V8 engine, say 3.5 litre, is no longer available.

I understand the desire to own a car that has a certain level of equipment, options, luxury, etc but I have never understood the desire to own a road car that can get you from zero to real trouble in the blink of an eye.

To my mind the trad up to about 200 hp with good midrange torque makes sense. The Aero range up to about 300 hp makes sense. You can see that I think the V6 Roadster should be on the Aero platform. Anything beyond that is starting to get into the realm of unusable. Let's face it the BMW V8 was designed for a car with nearly twice the weight of a Plus 8 and fitted with all sorts of driver "aids".

That is just my opinion oldgit

An interesting debate and a good thing we are all different.

I certainly agree that the new Plus 8 has come of age and is now on a par with the Aero's in terms of appeal. It certainly wasn't in the beginning. My favourite Aero up to recently was the S4 but I do like the look of the new Aero body.

But even though I could sell my soul and have a new Plus 8, I'm just not that bothered. If I was being thrifty I would look for an S4 Aero. If I'd won the lottery I might just spec a new shape Aero in a leary colour.

If MMC were still building the 3.0 S1 Roadster, I would probably order a new one today.
But for me the ideal balance of driver experience and useability would be the 200bhp 4 cylinder trad. Some of us actually enjoy the 30's experience of being shaken, AND stirred.
