I think M3Ws must be fighting hard for biggest depreciator. My £36K new 4400 mile car is probably worth not much more than £20K - if I actually wanted to sell it!

The Aero that I paid about £67K for in 2007 is probably worth up to £50K or so, and I'm sure the Plus 8 depreciation will tail off rapidly... As Peter says, depreciation on BMWs is horrendous; and Audis, Mercedes etc. These Germans seem to be as bad for depreciation as anything out there especially as the 'options' cost so much.

I don't know UK retail prices of German tins. However in Germany the price for a new Mercedes people carrier or the like is way too high claimed, and only a few private persons are willing to pay for it. The reason is, that the used cars have to compete with prices of used fleet cars or cars who were owned by Mercedes (or BMW etc) employees. And this group pays 25 to 30% less when purchasing new.

If the "must have it new" emotion is not too strong you can make always good deals on cars one year old. My 2010 E.class was new 67000€ and after 11 months and 20000km I bought her for 35900€. If you see the US prices for new German cars they are quite more reasonable.

As an 'entry level' Morgan owner I've often thought about the bigger engine models. I'm pretty sure my bank account could take the hit but the 4/4 that I have is SO good to drive that I'd be loath to change it. If it ain't broke ...

I generally do long road trips and all year driving. Never say never I guess.

Looking for another Morgan!

I hope my 8 is a keeper - in which case depreciation is not an issue.

I bought my Range Rover new and it's now worth about the same price as two pencils - however it still drives like new and I'll keep using it until it goes into smoke mode.

Love this one

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/used-cars/mo...30737?logcode=p

Took a long look at the one at Llangollen - might be the same car - same colour.

Its not affordability - its being able to justify allocating scarce resources for a marginal utility gain.

I also prefer to potter about at modest speed - not bothered about trying to push it - managed to drive for twenty five years without a RTA and dont want to come a cropper which might happen if corrupted by power and speed.

Might change my mind in future - who knows evil - Its happened before.

For all of you who hanker after the V8 sound but don't feel you can quite justify running a V8:

I know a MSCC member who is looking very seriously at that car...it is very attractive indeed.

Amusing that on Auto trader it is described as an Estate!!

They have two +8s both the same colour and spec, one is second hand and the other has never been sold. The one they had at Mog 15 was the new one the one in the photo is the second hand one. If you look carefully at the photo in the showroom the new +8 is behind this one. Both 2013 cars, great colour.
